November 27, 2025 — The New Buffalo Education Gathering brought 382 Indigenous high school students to UM’s Fort Garry campus, offering guidance, inspiration and a glimpse into the supports available for Indigenous learners. Led by the Indigenous Student Recruitment and Community Relations team, the event highlighted ethical recruitment, community connection and the message that “when you succeed, we succeed.”

The Conversation: Calls for grizzly hunts to return to Western Canada oversimplify a complex ecological issue : UM in the News
November 25, 2025 — Highly publicized grizzly bear attacks have ignited calls to reopen grizzly trophy hunts across Western Canada. The most recent push came from the B.C. Wildlife Federation, a conservation and hunting advocacy organization that called for a hunting season on grizzlies after a bear attacked a group of schoolchildren in Bella Coola, B.C., leaving two people critically injured and two others seriously hurt.
