Appointment of Mr. Mike Emslie as Chief Financial Officer / Comptroller

A message from Naomi Andrew, Vice-President (Administration):

I am pleased to announce that on April 26, 2021, the University of Manitoba Board of Governors Executive Committee approved the appointment of Mr. Mike Emslie as Chief Financial Officer / Comptroller of the University of Manitoba effective May 31, 2021.

Mr. Emslie currently holds the position of Vice-President, Finance and Administration at the University of Winnipeg (2016-present). Prior to this position, Mr. Emslie held a variety of positions at UW, including Director, Audit and Risk Management (2007), Executive Director, Finance and Controller (2008- 2011), Associate Vice-President, Financial Services & Controller (2011-2012), Associate Vice-President, Finance and Operations (2012-2016). Prior to joining UW, Mr. Emslie’s positions included Senior Audit Consultant with the University of Manitoba, Internal Auditor with the Government of Manitoba Department of Finance, and Audit Professional with the Office of the Auditor General of Canada.

Mr. Emslie’s education and professional designations include Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Bachelor of Commerce Honors, University of Manitoba.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) has been added to the Comptroller title to reflect the additional responsibilities that now fall within this role, including the Financial Planning and Budgeting office which previously reported to the Vice-President (Administration), as well as working with and supporting the Pension Office.

I would also like to thank Mr. Gord Pasieka for his exemplary service as Acting Comptroller while fulfilling his regular duties as Associate Comptroller during the last year under unprecedented change and challenges.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Mr. Emslie on his appointment, and in welcoming him back to the University of Manitoba. I look forward to working with Mike and I know I can count on your support as he assumes this role.
