Alum recognized as part of CBC 40 under 40 Awards
This year CBC 40 under 40 recognizes Paul Ong, a Faculty of Education Alum.
CBC Manitoba recognizes a group of young Manitobans who are impacting their communities and the province with their outstanding work. Among the winners this year a Faculty of Education Alum, Paul Ong. He holds a Master in Education for Sustainable Well-Being and he is currently a Vice-Principal in the Winnipeg School Division.
The award recognizes his contributions to the community through his Concert for a Cause, “the goal of the event is to use performing arts as a platform to engage community and to donate proceeds to a charity,” said Ong. In the past some of the beneficiaries have been Children Heritage Fund, Military Family Resource Centre, Siloam Mission, CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, Hands of Hope and Sistema Winnipeg, among other local charities. Since 2015, Concert for a Cause has raised almost $100,000.
“It is my hope that through engaging youth, we empower them to develop and pursue their talents, and to see what their talents can do to create a positive impact to the community,” explains Ong.
Concert for a Cause started from his love for singing and the performing arts and profound purpose to create a positive impact on his community. “I feel very thankful to my community. Their support has allowed me to use my voice as platform to create a positive impact to the community through the performing arts,” said Ong.
The event has become a platform to create community engagement to make a positive impact around the province.
The award is relevant because I am able to represent the Asian- Canadian community and the good things we do through this recognition. It makes me feel thankful to be recognized for the work we have been doing out of passion and a strong belief in what we do- what a bonus! This award is a result of the community support that has allowed me to use my gift, and transform it into a platform to create a collective community engagement to make a positive impact in the community. This award will be even more relevant and impactful if this inspires, empowers and motivates people to make a positive difference in their communities through their own little ways.
