Find out how to publish your research as an undergrad
PMUSER (Proceedings of Manitoba’s Undergraduate Science and Engineering Research) is a ‘for student – by student’ journal that annually publishes peer-reviewed research. This journal publishes and reviews articles with work performed by, and manuscripts written by, undergraduate students in any science or engineering related field. PMUSER will be hosting an open house event on April 19, from 4-7 p.m. in the Science and Technology Library to answer questions about types of submissions, opportunities for peer-reviewers, and upcoming peer-review workshops.
Interested in submitting but are unsure if your work qualifies? Submissions can take a variety of forms so it is recommended that you connect with one of the members of the editorial board about submitting a paper. All submissions are eligible for a $250 Best Paper Award (awarded to the undergraduate student author) and participating as a reviewer or attending a workshop will give you a notation on your Co-Curricular Record.
PMUSER editor-in-chief Matthew Doering published in the journal’s first issue in 2013 as a co-author on a research paper. When he returned to university to do his PhD, he joined the journal’s editorial team.
“Being co-author on a paper, I saw the value of a student-run journal because it gave research that wouldn’t have been published anywhere else the opportunity to receive broader recognition. And as an editor I’ve had the chance to learn about publishing a research journal and all the various types of work, leadership, and time management skills that go into its success.”
For those interested in further information, check out the PMUSER webpage and submission flowchart, email Matthew directly, and don’t miss the open house.
