An update on events in Ukraine

February 21, 2014 —

The Central and East European Studies Program and the department of German and Slavic Studies are hosting a public discussion on the unfolding events in Ukraine.

As the presenter, professor Myroslav Shkandrij from the department of German and Slavic Studies told UM Today:

“The situation in Ukraine is building toward a climax with frantic discussions going on in the parliament, defections among MPs, and attempts to strip the president of some of his powers. A crucial vote is expected tomorrow, Friday [Feb. 21]. In the meantime some oligarchs, swayed by the strength of the protests, appear to be deserting Yanukovych. The demonstrations in Kyiv continue, and appear to be spreading throughout the country. An update and analysis will be presented during the talk.”
