Metro: U of M testing, strong, hot, house
August 28, 2015 —
The Metro published a story today about the Permafrost Testbox currently installed outside Russell Building at the University of Manitoba campus. Mark Pauls, partner-in-residence with the faculty of architecture spoke about the purpose of the structure.
“We wanna see what it does in winter in the extreme cold, that’s the part we’re really excited about,” Pauls said.
“We wanna put some heaters inside, heat it up to 20 degrees and kinda watch where the air leaks out, where the heat leaks out.”
He said they’ve got some impressive data so far that shows that with just one light bulb per room and a temperature of minus 30 C outside, the interior would be 24 C inside.
