Microsoft Entra Multifactor Authentication (MFA) replacing Duo MFA on January 29, 2024
Set up Entra MFA early for a seamless transition
As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest level of security for our students, faculty, and staff, the university will transition from Duo multi-factor authentication (MFA) to Entra MFA on January 29, 2024, for staff and faculty, and on February 26, 2024, for all students.
Why the Change?
Cyber threats are constantly evolving and becoming more sophisticated, making it crucial for educational institutions to stay ahead of the security game. Transitioning to Entra MFA will provide the university with advanced protections against new types of cyberattacks.
How will this affect you?
To ensure minimal disruption, we invite you to set up Entra MFA on your devices now.
The setup includes downloading and installing the Microsoft Authenticator mobile app on your second-factor device.
Please note that once you have set up Entra MFA, you will continue to receive the Duo MFA prompt until the staff transition date of January 29, 2024. Students will continue to use Duo MFA until February 26, 2024.
What is Entra MFA?
Entra MFA is a cloud-based multi-factor authentication service provided by Microsoft. It uses a combination of factors, such number matching or passcodes in addition to your email address and password to verify your identity before granting access to systems and applications. This adds an extra layer of security to our university’s login process, making it much more difficult for hackers to gain unauthorized access.
Seamless integration
One of the major advantages of transitioning to Entra MFA is its seamless integration with the other security tools provided by Microsoft. This will enable IT administrators to have a centralized view of our university’s security environment, making it easier to monitor and manage any potential threats.
Thank You
Thank you for your cooperation and support in this important security initiative. By transitioning to Entra MFA, the university is taking a proactive step towards protecting our data and systems from potential cyber threats. With the added security features included with Microsoft’s suite of information securitytools, the university can continue to provide a secure environment for students, faculty, and staff to learn, grow and thrive.
