Get Cyber Safe – For Future You: Cyber Security Awareness at UM
Training, awareness, and support
October is Cyber Security Awareness Month, and this year’s theme is “Get cyber safe – for future you.” At the University of Manitoba, we have joined the national campaign to help our campus community build strong cyber habits that protect not just today, but tomorrow.
Why cybersecurity matters for everyone at UM
Cyber threats are evolving rapidly, and higher education institutions like ours face increasingly sophisticated risks. The university is focused on strengthening our defenses and making cyber safety a shared responsibility across campus.
But cyber security isn’t just about avoiding threats right now—it’s about setting yourself up for a safer, easier future. Whether you’re a student, staff member, or faculty, the steps you take today can save you time and stress down the road.
UM’s Commitment: Training, awareness, and support
UM is continually rolling out programs designed to equip our community with the knowledge and tools to protect personal and university information, as well as our digital infrastructure. As part of this commitment, we are offering cybersecurity and privacy awareness training for all faculty and staff and researchers.
The online training program is offered through the Microsoft 365 platform (Microsoft Defender), consists of 6 modules, and takes 45-60 minutes to complete. Here for more information: https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-about-ist/SitePages/Cyber-awareness-training.aspx
