Winter Bike to Work Day 2018
Curious about winter cycling? Try it out on Friday, February 9!
UMCycle and the Office of Sustainability will be hosting pit stops at the Fort Garry and Bannatyne Campuses to reward you for your winter cycling efforts. Pit stops will include hot drinks, bike shaped doughnuts from our friends at Oh Doughnuts and the chance to win great prizes!
Winter Bike to Work Day (WBTWD) is an international event, which seeks to promote winter cycling and the joys of getting outdoors in the winter. If you want to participate, head to winterbiketoworkday.org to register.
Pit stop locations on Friday, February 9:
- UMCycle Bike Kiosk, Fort Garry Campus (corner of Sidney Smith and Curry Place) – 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
- Brodie Atrium Entrance, Bannatyne Campus – 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Still not sure you are ready to try winter cycling on WBTWD? Join up with a team leader to have a buddy to support you along your ride. If there is not a team leader in your area, log on to GoManitoba to find a bike mentor along your route. Need a bike that can handle winter? UMCycle hosts build-a-bike sessions every Thursday from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the UMCycle Warehouse (157A Helen Glass). Winterize your bike or build something brand new. Stop by to check out everything they have to offer.

Unable to try biking on February 9? No problem! Stop by the Winter Bike Obstacle Course on Thursday, February 15 from 1:00-2:30 pm outside of the Fitzgerald Building to try out a winterized bike. The Winter Bike Obstacle Course is part of the JackFrost Challenge, which runs February 11 – 17.
It was a nice day for it, -26ºC and stiff westerly wind in the morning – but sunshine! 😉
