The Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit assumed an investigation regarding the report of an armed male on the Fort Garry Campus of the University of Manitoba on the morning of November 19. The service engaged the public by providing information and safety instruction through social media and the province’s Alert Ready Emergency Alert System regarding a dangerous person in that area.
Understandably, the incident elevated concerns from both general and university communities. We believe the service’s course of action was timely, appropriate, and carefully considered based on the initial reporting and details provided.
Investigators have explored multiple sources of evidence; however, have not been able to substantiate the information that has come forward.
