Wpg Free Press: SKYBOX by Faculty of Architecture students will be one of this year’s warming huts

November 27, 2013 —

As the Winnipeg Free Press and the Metro report, U of M Faculty of Architecture students from the environmental design program will be featured as winners in the The Forks’ warming hut competition. Through the use of reflective materials, the design will feature the prairie sky; it’s also the first design to incorporate social media.

As the Metro writes:

SKYBOX, designed by third-year University of Manitoba architecture students Matt Hagen, Evan Taylor and Ryan Lewis, aims to reflect the Prairie sky with the use of reflective materials.

The trio said that an important aspect of their design — believed to be a first — is the incorporation of social media, by asking people to take pictures in the hut and put them on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #skybox.

Congrats, team!
