Wpg Free Press: Alumnus generously supports the arts once again
As the Winnipeg Free Press reports:
Just a week after Gail Asper and her husband, Michael Paterson, donated $2 million to the University of Manitoba Taché Arts Project through the Front and Centre campaign, the U of M alumnus and honorary degree recipient was standing centre stage at the National Arts Centre (NAC) in Ottawa, serenaded by performers after she gave $5 million to support the NAC.
The scene was very similar to what happened at the U of M when student performers entertained the arts benefactor on the Fort Garry campus.
Asper said she is driven to make such donations because of what she was taught by her father, the late Winnipeg businessman and philanthropist Israel Asper.
“We should give while we live,” she said was his frequent advice. “We should give while we can see the benefits of our giving, the fruits of our giving.”
