Update on ongoing sewer crossing repair at Fort Garry Bridge
Late Tuesday afternoon the City of Winnipeg provided an update regarding repairs to the Fort Garry Bridge sewer crossing.
City crews have been working to repair a broken pipe that has been leaking sewage into the Red River.
To support the repair work City officials have requested that residences and businesses in South Winnipeg reduce their water use, including the University of Manitoba.
While most students from Fort Garry campus are away for Winter Term Break, UM is asking those who remain on Fort Garry campus this week to be mindful of water consumption.
Please be assured that water on the Fort Garry campus remains safe for consumption and no campus services are being closed at this time.
Sustainable, reduced water use can be as easy as taking shorter showers, running only full loads of laundry, and turning off water flow when brushing teeth, shaving, and washing dishes.
By taking these steps our community can assist with reducing the production of sewage during the time it takes for the City to repair the issue.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to sustainability at UM. Updates will be provided to the UM Community when available.
