Get UM winter-active

Free fat-tire biking, ice-skating, and winter walks during Winter Active

February 7, 2024 —

Winter isn’t over just yet. This February, UM community members can participate in a winter wonderland of activities on campus from February 20-23 during UM Winter Active — all free to UM students, faculty and staff.

This year, you can take a 30-minute fat bike tour with a guide, lace up skates in the Wayne Fleming Arena on campus, join Indigenous Scholar Dr. Brian Rice for a guided Indigenous history walk around our campus, and swing by the Quad for hot chocolate hosted by UMSU. There will also be a walk on the Bannatyne campus, led by Adam Toffan, Joe Doupe Recreation Centre supervisor.

Try these activities for free with colleagues or friends during UM Winter Active.

Get a free ticket to take in an afternoon session of the Canada West Men’s Basketball Championship games on either Wednesday or Thursday. This year Bison Sports is hosting the largest tournament in Canadian’s university history, hosting 12 teams over 4 days, with all games played on one court.

Most UM Winter Active activities are drop-in. You must reserve your spot if you wish to participate in the fat bike tour. Please note that staff should participate during their lunch hour as much as possible, confirming permission for any additional time with supervisors.

If you wish, you can join the walk on either campus. Winnipeg Transit bus 36 Northwest Super Express Transit Route is a quick ride of approximately 25 minutes between campuses.

UM Winter Active is sponsored by the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management and UMSU.
