New working groups to advise on academic planning and safe return of on-campus activity

May 21, 2020 —

The University has established two new working groups to support strategic planning during this pandemic: the COVID-19 Academic Planning Working Group, and the COVID-19 Recovery Working Group.

The Academic Planning Working Group, chaired by Todd Mondor, Deputy-Provost (Academic Planning and Programs), is responsible for providing advice to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) with respect to academic planning measures that will be undertaken in response to COVID-19 pandemic. This working group shall develop plans, strategies and tactics necessary to maintain high-quality academic programming despite the changes to standard teaching methods and assessments necessitated by the societal responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, and consider academic unit recovery plans. The group’s full membership list is below.

The Recovery Working Group will lead the review of the academic, research and other recovery plans for a slow, safe and phased-in restoration of on-campus activity. This working group is chaired by both Andrew Konowalchuk, Associate Vice-President (Administration) and Todd Mondor, Deputy-Provost (Academic Planning and Programs), and provides strategic advice to the President through the Vice-President (Administration). This working group is also supported by an Operational Planning sub-committee. The recovery group’s full membership list is below.

The Recovery Working Group has established five guiding principles to inform its work:

  • The health and safety of students, staff, faculty and visitors is the over-arching priority.
  • All students, staff and faculty will work remotely unless approval has been granted to work on campus.
  • Any activity on campus, whatever its nature, will be carried out while strictly respecting the constraints of public health authorities and in accordance with government guidelines and directives.
  • Recovery of on-campus activities will be gradual and in keeping with the University’s stated principles and recovery plan.
  • The University will continue to take into consideration and accommodate special circumstances for staff, faculty and students, including health conditions.
