The Affect Conference: Memory, Aesthetics, Ethics
The Affect Conference: Memory, Aesthetics, Ethics, is the capstone event of the Affect Project, a research endeavour sponsored by a SSHRC Partner Development Grant.
For the last three years, international researchers led by professor Arlene Young from the U of M’s department of English, film, and theatre, have been investigating the role of affect–usually understood as the physical expression of emotion–in various arenas of public life.
The Affect Conference runs from September 18-20 at the Fort Garry Hotel in downtown Winnipeg.
Over one hundred scholars from around the world will be in attendance at panels that explore affect and feeling in the realms of psychology, art, literature, politics, theatre and religion.
The conference features three keynote speakers: Dr. Lauren Berlant(English from the University of Chicago; Dr. Ronald De Sousa (Philosophy) from the University of Toronto; and Dr. John Cacioppo (Psychology/Psychiatry) from the University of Chicago.
