Dr. Can-Ming Hu is the recipient of the 2013 UMFA Merit Award
Dr. Can-Ming Hu an Associate Professor of Condensed Matter Physics is the recipient of the 2013 UMFA Merit Award in the Life Sciences, Natural Sciences and Engineering category for his Research, Scholarly Work and Creative Activities (the main factors to support the nomination included the quality of Dr. Hu’s publications, training of highly qualified personnel and funding awards in the 2013 calendar year).
Dr. Hu obtained a Ph.D. in 1995 at Würzburg University, followed by a Habilitation degree in 2006 at Hamburg University, both in Germany. His team of research students are currently investigating magnetism, spintronics, and metamaterials. Their focus is on the interplay between spin, charge, and photon in low-dimensional systems. He has published high profile papers in all three areas, and has supervised graduate students with research support from NSERC, CFI, EU, DFG (Germany), NEDO (Japan), and NSF (China). Dr. Hu is a member of the Canadian Association of Physicists; he is also a member of American Physical Society (APS), as well as of the German and Chinese Physical Societies.
Congratulations, Dr. Hu!
