CBC: Manitoba’s health system not ready for changes promised in throne speech: nurses union

November 19, 2025 — 
Dr. Sonia Udod, associate professor of nursing at the University of Manitoba, agreed there’s "good and bad" in the announcement. "Who will take care of the patients when there are no nurses to take over?" Udod said. "I'm not sure how that’s going to happen."

Early-career Rady researchers awarded New Investigator grants

Five assistant professors from the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences are among 24 researchers who have received a total of nearly $1.8 million in New Investigator Operating Grants from Research Manitoba.

Interprofessional Rady Faculty student event highlights collaboration across health-care disciplines

Simulation labs at the University of Manitoba’s Bannatyne campus were packed with students from the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences on Oct. 16 for an interprofessional education event aimed at fostering collaboration across health-care disciplines.

New nurses ready to ‘dive right in’

October 23, 2025 — 
The College of Nursing welcomed 97 new nurses to the profession at a pinning ceremony on Oct. 22, the day after the bachelor of nursing students graduated at convocation. Twenty-eight students from the college’s graduate programs also crossed the convocation stage to receive their degrees, including 20 graduates from the nurse practitioner program.

Rady symposium explores recruitment, retention of Indigenous faculty

Increasing the number of Indigenous faculty members at UM requires a strategy to ensure that they are not just hired, but valued and supported, speakers said at a symposium on Sept. 25.

Health care restructuring, COVID redeployment inspire thesis for nursing master’s student

October 3, 2025 — 
Not long after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2017, Charlene Braun started her first leadership role, as a nurse educator at Grace Hospital. At that time the Manitoba health system was in a period of restructuring and consolidation, which inspired her to return to UM and pursue a master’s degree.

The Rady Faculty of Health Sciences hosted its largest-ever Dean’s Homecoming Breakfast on Sept. 20, with more than 280 UM alumni from the health professions reuniting at the Brodie Centre atrium.

Nursing grad student seeks to close gaps for 2SLGBTQIA+ families with infants in intensive care

When she was working as a bedside nurse in a neonatal intensive care unit, UM nursing alumna Ashley Bell saw some 2SLGBTQIA+ families were not receiving the same level of care as other families.
