New issue of RadyUM welcomes sixth college to Rady Faculty
The latest issue of RadyUM magazine is available now, online and in print. The cover story introduces the new College of Community and Global Health – soon to be the sixth college encompassed by the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences.
The current department of community health sciences in the Max Rady College of Medicine will transition this spring into the new college, joining the colleges of dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy and rehabilitation sciences.
The twice-yearly RadyUM brings you the latest news and student, faculty and alumni accomplishments from the five – soon to be six – colleges of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences: the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, Max Rady College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and College of Rehabilitation Sciences.
Rady researchers profiled in the Winter 2024/25 issue include Dr. Moni Fricke, an assistant professor of physical therapy who has long worked for equitable access to care; Dr. Anil Menon, an assistant professor of preventive dental science who is Manitoba’s only dental public health specialist; and Dr. Mojgan Rastegar, a professor of biochemistry and medical genetics who founded the unique-in-Canada Human Rett Syndrome Brain Bio-Repository Laboratory at UM.
Rady alumni showcased in this issue include nursing alum Kirsty Muller, a member of Hollow Water First Nation who focuses her “heart medicine” work on addictions and harm reduction; pharmacy alum Dr. Jamie Falk, who is passionate about applying research evidence to real-world pharmacy practice; and Stefanie Wiens, who has combined her skills as an occupational therapist and an actor to become an “accessibility choreographer” for film and theatre productions.
Other features highlight Dr. Gerald and Reesa Niznick’s landmark donation to new dental clinics on the Bannatyne campus; the opening of the new Rady Biomedical Fish Facility; four Rady professors who were named among Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women; and the joint launch by UM and Shared Health of a new Indigenous cultural safety training program for everyone involved in health care in Manitoba.
