Student action group hosts virtual marketing education event

October 20, 2020 —

The University of Manitoba Marketing Association (UMMA) is a student action group at the Asper School of Business that has been advancing marketing education in Manitoba for more than 15 years. UMMA encourages students to create and develop strong marketing skillsets, enhanced through workshops, competitions and networking events held throughout the year.

This September, UMMA hosted the Sales for Success event, which represented the first of a range of events they have planned for the year.

Held virtually on Zoom, Sales for Success featured guest speaker Jordan Kipnes the Vice President of Development for Student Works Painting, who offered his insights on how to succeed in the sales industry.

Numerous students that attended the event commented on the career relevancy of the event theme and valuable speaker insights.

Asper BComm student, Samuel Demeke remarked, “Jordan provided practical advice about how to be successful in sales based on his extensive professional experience.”

Industry attendee, Angelika Sawka, Business Coach at Student Works West Management Program, added that her largest takeaway from the session was “gaining a better understanding of the core values behind sales, and the importance of bringing value to the customer.”

Sales for Success was the first in a series of events the group will launch this year, all designed to improve students’ knowledge and understanding of the current landscape of the marketing industry.
