Read new issue of RadyUM magazine online
The summer 2020 issue of the RadyUM magazine is digital only and now available online.
This is the sixth edition of the publication that celebrates the successes of the thriving Rady Faculty of Health Sciences community – from its faculty to learners to alumni in the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, Max Rady College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and College of Rehabilitation Sciences.
In the Dean’s Message, Dr. Brian Postl, dean, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and vice-provost (health sciences), addresses the societal changes brought on by the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent movement to combat racism around the world. Postl outlines what the Rady Faculty is doing to address racism and discrimination, which includes equity, diversity and inclusion and anti-racism initiatives, and work led by Ongomiizwin, the Indigenous Institute of Health and Healing.
“Speaking out against racism is our professional responsibility and is inherent in the oaths we take as we enter the health professions,” Postl writes. “Indeed, it is the very fabric of our commitment to our community and to our patients.”
The issue also looks at the diverse work being carried out by five Rady Faculty researchers, including world-wide expert on COVID-19 Dr. Jason Kindrachuk. Read about Rady Faculty alumni who are making us proud, including chief nursing officer for Shared Health Lanette Siragusa. And find out how our Rady students across all colleges contributed to support the health system during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Head to our Features section for compelling stories that include a piece about the 40th anniversary of UM’s research partnership with the University of Nairobi and a recap of the Ongomiizwin – Health Services’ 50th anniversary gala.
