Prem Watsa to be honoured by Asper School

Prem Watsa, the recipient of the 2016 International Distinguished Entrepreneur Award (IDEA), will share his story of success with Asper School of Business students on Tuesday, June 7.

The University of Manitoba and the Associates, a group of more than 270 prominent business leaders who support the Asper School of Business, invite media and the U of M community to Watsa’s dialogue with the students, which promises to be engaging.

Watsa is Chairman & CEO of Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd., a Toronto Stock Exchange traded company with assets of $43 billion.

When: Tuesday, June 7, 2016, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Where: Main Floor Lounge, Drake Centre, Fort Garry Campus

Considered to be Winnipeg’s most prestigious business award and the province’s premiere business gala, the International Distinguished Entrepreneur Award (IDEA) honours a business executive who has achieved outstanding entrepreneurial and business success and has made an exemplary contribution to economic life and the community.

David Barnard, President and Vice-Chancellor at the University of Manitoba, will present Watsa with the IDEA award at a formal gala dinner at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg on June 7, 2016.

The award traces its roots to 1983 with the formation of the Associates of the Faculty of Management (now the Asper School of Business. To date there have been 32 recipients, s including Richard Branson, Paul Desmarais, Akio Morita, Ross Perot, Heather Reisman, Martha Stewart, Dame Anita Roddick, Gerald Schwartz, Jim Sinegal, Stu Clark, Chip Wilson, Linda Hasenfratz, and last year’s honouree, David Thomson.
