New issue of RadyUM magazine online now
Despite the challenges of the global pandemic, the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences continues to be a centre for outstanding achievement, innovation and community service.
The Summer 2021 issue of RadyUM magazine, now available online, brings you inspiring stories that celebrate students, faculty and alumni of the faculty’s five colleges: the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, Max Rady College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and College of Rehabilitation Sciences.
The cover story recounts how Ongomiizwin, the Indigenous Institute of Health and Healing in the Rady Faculty, has successfully managed the COVID-19 vaccination project in all 63 Manitoba First Nations.
In his Dean’s Message, Dr. Brian Postl, dean of the Rady Faculty, discusses the resilience shown by everyone across the faculty in response to pandemic restrictions and health-care demands.
The magazine highlights the work of Rady Faculty researchers whose passions range from improving long-term care facilities to enhancing respiratory rehabilitation for post-COVID-19 patients.
It showcases Rady Faculty alumni, such as a dentist who led the Manitoba Dental Association through the stressful first year of the pandemic and a pharmacist whose consulting firm helps clients in the health-care sector develop leadership and management skills.
Additional features look at the seven new Canada Research Chairs in the Max Rady College of Medicine; UM’s Institute for Global Public Health as it enters a new era; and a memoir of medical burnout and healing penned by UM’s Dr. Jillian Horton.
