The Globe and Mail: Federal government takes down labour strike data relied upon by unions, researchers

Dr. Adam King, an assistant professor at University of Manitoba’s labour studies program, said it had been frustrating to be without the data because labour researchers depend on up-to-date work data, particularly in a period of a tense labour relations.

Dr. Tandeep Sidhu, assistant professor in the University of Manitoba’s department of sociology and criminology, said the update seems like a step in the right direction to improve police accountability and make ticket fixing harder — but in the wake of Bostock’s case, it may be "too little, too late" for a police force he said now faces a "legitimacy crisis."

City News: A.I. misconduct on the rise at the University of Manitoba

A.I. is everywhere, including on the University of Manitoba campus, and while faculty leaders say work is being done to address its use in academics. Right now, its presence is overwhelming the school’s office of academic integrity and taking professors’ focus away from their students. “Currently, we’re not ready to handle it,” said Jenna Tichon, the Vice President of the University of Manitoba Faculty Association.

The Conversation: Calls for grizzly hunts to return to Western Canada oversimplify a complex ecological issue

Highly publicized grizzly bear attacks have ignited calls to reopen grizzly trophy hunts across Western Canada. The most recent push came from the B.C. Wildlife Federation, a conservation and hunting advocacy organization that called for a hunting season on grizzlies after a bear attacked a group of schoolchildren in Bella Coola, B.C., leaving two people critically injured and two others seriously hurt.
