MID Graduate Carla Pienaar wins the IDC Design Research Award
For the second year in a row, a University of Manitoba student has won The Interior Designers of Canada Design Research Award. The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence and innovation through interior design research. Our sincerest congratulations go to Carla Pienaar from the University of Manitoba, Department of Interior Design, whose practicum work explored how interior design can be used to foster a safe environment for sex trade workers. Her work entitled “Bordello: Synergetic Gentrification of Place and Industry” demonstrated relevance to the profession of interior design by outlining the potential impact of research on the profession as well as on the life experience of a highly marginalized segment of society. Ms Pienaar’s practicum work was guided by committee chair Tijen Roshko, along with examiners Katherine Isaac and Shawna Ferris.
