March is Nutrition Month

March 1, 2018 —

Did you know that March is Nutrition Month? The Nutrition Education & Community Outreach (NECO) Committee and your Dietitians of Canada Student Representatives present #NECONutritionMonth2018, and we want YOU to get involved!

This year’s theme is “Unlock the Potential of Food!” Each week of March, we will be discussing the power that food has to enhance lives and improve health. Food has the potential to fuel, discover, prevent, heal, and bring us together. We invite you to join us in the conversation about food means to you.

How YOU can get involved:

Stop in at our Bannock Making Session and come learn how to make an easy and delicious recipe, meet new people, as well as learn and share some great nutrition information! There will also be a door prize (a $30 gift card to Sobeys) that you can win by participating.

Date: Thursday, March 1, 2018
Time: 10:00AM-12:00PM
Location: Migizii Agamik Aboriginal Student Lodge (beside Education Building)

Check out our interactive booths throughout the month, where you can enter to win contests to win fantastic prizes that include an instant pot, a crock pot, a spiralizer, glass-lock containers, Degrees Diner gift cards, reusable snack and produce bags, and a variety of cookbooks. We will also be handing out free fruit, Hemp Heart samples from Manitoba Harvest, information about pulses from the Canadian Centre for Agri-Food Research in Health and Medicine (CCARM), and cookbooks from Lentils, Canola Eat Well, and Manitoba Pork.

Thursday, March 15 @ Active Living Centre

Friday, March 16 @ Engineering Building Atrium

Monday, March 19 @ Agriculture Building Atrium

Tuesday, March 20 and Wednesday, March 21 @ University Centre

***All booths run from 9:00AM-3:00PM***

Participate in our month-long Instagram Contest by posting pictures of how food has the potential to fuel, discover, prevent, heal, and/or bring people together in your life. Be creative! Be sure to follow and tag us (@uofm_neco) and use the hashtag #NECONutritionMonth2018 to enter our contest for your chance to win a Ninja Master prep blender at the end of the month! There is no limit to how many entries you may submit for this contest. We will be determining and announcing the winner of the contest on April 1.
