Join us at the Pride Parade

June 3, 2016 —

The University of Manitoba is proud to join other leaders in Winnipeg’s business community as a Gold Level sponsor of the 2016 Pride Parade on Sunday, June 5, 2016, starting at 12 p.m. at the Manitoba Legislative Building and moving through downtown Winnipeg.

Students, staff, faculty and members of our alumni community are being encouraged to walk with the University of Manitoba parade float and to visit the U of M booth at the Pride Festival at The Forks. President and Vice-Chancellor David Barnard, Vice-President (External) John Kearsey and incoming Provost Janice Ristock will be participating in the parade.

“I know that within the University of Manitoba community, students, staff and faculty are committed to allyship and maintaining a welcoming work and learning environment, and that many members of the University of Manitoba family, including alumni, count themselves with pride as members of the LGBTTQ* community,” said President Barnard.

“Across many disciplines, our researchers and scholars are exploring LGBTTQ* themes on an ongoing basis. Ours is undeniably a meaningful and authentic engagement with this subject, helping generate deeper understanding of complex and emerging issues,” he adds.

Beginning on Monday, May 30th, and throughout Pride Week, the Pride Flag was raised and flown on both campuses, and free LGBTTQ* awareness training sessions were held for staff and students.
