International students celebrate
It was a big day
On Oct. 23, there was a strong buzz of excitement in University Centre as an exuberant group of students from all over the world and their families gathered in MPR.
It was time to recognize the completion of a year of international programming in Applied Business Management and Applied Human Resource Management offered through Extended Education. Over 200 students celebrated the completion of their studies, with over 400 people in attendance at the gathering including their instructors and Extended Education staff who supported them in their academic journey.
Celebration Ceremony
The magnitude and importance of this accomplishment was evident in many broad smiles, and in the coverage of the moment with video posts to Facebook Live, live video chats with family and friends who could not be there in person, and the snapping of many photos. Everyone was eager to share their special moment of celebration on social media, with Extended Education’s international programming’s new hashtag, #UMLearnInCanada.
Melissa Campbell, International Recruitment and Business Development Coordinator, hosted the event. Gary Hepburn, dean, Extended Education, and the Access Program’s Unkan (Grandfather)-in-Residence, Wanbdi Wakita, brought greetings. Students Jimmy Quinones and Samar Seoudi congratulated their fellow students. Certificates were presented, and the large group of students cheered as group photos were taken.
