From our collective grief, an opportunity to help others
A message from UM President & Vice-Chancellor David Barnard:
The University of Manitoba is still grieving the tragedy of Flight 752 and the five members of our UM community we lost that day.
Privately and publicly, we have shared stories, held vigils, and taken time to reflect. Though we are still coming to terms with this unbelievable event, our unity in the face of this tragedy has moved two groups within the UM and larger community to raise funds to honour the lives we have lost.
A fellowship will be established as an endowment fund to honour the memory of all the victims of Flight 752 from Manitoba. This fellowship will be awarded annually to a graduate student in a STEM related field at the University of Manitoba.
There is also a scholarship that celebrates the legacy of Dr. Forough Khadem, and will support international female graduate students enrolled at UM in the STEM disciplines. Like the scholarship’s namesake, recipients will demonstrate leadership, embody a pioneering spirit, and have a desire to make an impact on the world through their science.
We are committed to supporting these efforts and share the desire to channel our sadness towards a positive cause. I encourage you to join me in contributing to these funds.
