Friends of Engineering to match gifts to scholarship fund
Earlier this year, the Price Faculty of Engineering and the Friends of Engineering lost a great man and friend. After a courageous battle with cancer, Dean Emeritus, Dr. Douglas (Doug) Ruth passed away on January 11, 2021.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of our Faculty in 2008, Doug and his wife Beverly established the Douglas and Beverly Ruth Centenary Award in Engineering to support undergraduate students at the Price Faculty of Engineering. This fund encourages engineering students to excel in their studies by providing scholarship support and is awarded to a second, third- or fourth-year student with a minimum GPA of 3.5.
Doug leaves behind a tenured legacy of dedication to excellence in engineering education. It is in this spirit of giving that Friends of Engineering, in partnership with the Price Faculty of Engineering and the University of Manitoba, announces that it will be matching all gifts made to the Douglas and Beverly Ruth Centenary Award in Engineering, up to $10,000, from now until December 31, 2021. An additional fifty cents match from the Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative has been secured, meaning every dollar given will be matched at 150 per cent.
Today, Friends of Engineering is asking members of our community to consider a gift to this fund. Your contribution will help carry on Doug and Beverly’s legacy of helping students at the Price Faculty of Engineering succeed. Financial demands on students continue to grow year-over-year and many rely on help from our generous donors. Together, we can make a difference.
