Ellis building to reopen April 1

Flooding temporarily closed the Fort Garry campus building

Update – March 28, 2024, 8:30 A.M.

All services have been restored to the Ellis Building.

Classes for Thursday have been relocated. Classroom reassignments have been posted to Aurora and UM Learn (news item).

All regular activity will resume in the building on Monday April 1, 2024.

The building will remain locked until April 1.

The university thanks Operations and Maintenance for all their work to restore safe use of the building.


Update – March 26, 2024, 3 P.M.:

Due to the continued power outage in the Ellis Building, the building remains closed. This will result in classes for Wednesday and Thursday having to be relocated. Classroom reassignments have been posted to Aurora and UM Learn (news item).

The team also continues to work closely with faculty to manage any issues related to research sample preservation, equipment needs, etc.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as this complex issue in the Ellis Building gets resolved.

 


March 25, 2024:

The Ellis Building has been evacuated and closed until further notice as of March 25, 2024.

The closure is a result of flooding in the building.

Crews are working to repair the cause of the flooding and identify and address any resulting damage.

Crews have yet to advise how long the building will remain closed.

Classes for Tuesday have been moved to other locations on campus. Students can log in to New Aurora or UM Learn to find their alternate classroom locations.

Further updates will be communicated when more is known.
