Doors open on new facility at Carman research farm
The Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences celebrated the grand opening of a new facility at the Ian N. Morrison Research Farm in Carman, MB last week.
Faculty, staff, students and friends of the Faculty were on hand as long-time faculty members Alvin Iverson and Don Flaten held the red ribbon that was “cut” by a plot combine as it entered the new building.
The new facility was made possible with crowd-sourced donations, matched by foundational support through Western Grains Research Foundation and the Faculty’s Endowment Fund.
The new 7200-square-foot space will house much of the research farm’s field research equipment which is critical to the agronomic programs of researchers, graduate students, trainees and research collaborators across multiple disciplines. The building will store over 50 pieces including 3-point hitch planters, small plot combines and swathers, utility tractors, and quads.
