CBC Manitoba: Pumpkin spice and everything nice
September 18, 2025 —
The official start to fall is just around the corner. When you think of fall, what comes to mind? In the latest edition of Seasonal Sociology: 2nd Edition, professors from across Canada reflect on how culture and our social lives mark the different seasons. From summer cottages signifying summer vacations to pumpkin spice lattes as a favourite fall beverage, we talk about our values, traditions and connections are tied to the different seasons.
UM’s Dr. Sonia Bookman, Associate Professor and Department Head of Sociology and Criminology, talks to CBC Manitoba about her chapter contribution, “Pumpkin Spice Lattes: Marking the Seasons with Brands,” that was featured in the book.
