The University of Manitoba Bison Women’s hockey team added Venla Hovi as its last recruit for the upcoming 2015-16 season.

Hovi who hails from Tampere, Finland is the program’s first international student athlete during Head Coach Jon Rempel’s 11 year tenure.

Hovi has extensive international experience with the Finnish National team, competing in the World Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and also at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 earning bronze medals in three of those tournaments.

“Venla is an extremely mature young woman with a great international resume and also has a lot she still wants to accomplish both academically and athletically,” said Rempel. “We are very pleased to have someone of Venla’s abilities playing in our program for the next 4 years.”

Most recently, Hovi was on the Finnish National team in Sochi Russia in 2014.
