Asper School of Business Welcomes Western Canada to JDC West
The University of Manitoba and the Asper School of Business will host participants in the first-ever Virtual JDC West competition to explore the "Age of Innovation."
From January 15 to 17 2021, the I.H. Asper School of Business will be making history.
Not only is this the first time in JDC West history that the competition is being hosted by the I.H. Asper School of Business in Winnipeg, but until now, JDC West has always taken place as a physical competition. The University of Manitoba and the I.H. Asper School of Business will be hosting participants in the first-ever Virtual JDC West competition to explore this year’s theme, the “Age of Innovation.”
“The “Age of Innovation” has inspired us to bring the JDC West experience this year to delegates using technology never seen before at this competition,” says event co-chair and Commerce Students’ Association President, Stephanie Kalo. “While we can’t host the participants in Winnipeg like initially planned, we know that the JDC West spirit is more alive than ever. And not just in one location this time, but all across the country.”
JDC West is the most prestigious undergraduate business competition in Western Canada. Over the course of three days, over 600 students from 12 of the premier post-secondary institutions in Western Canada will compete in the areas of Academics, Debate, and an out-of-the-box social competition.
In another “JDC West First”, this year, volunteers from nearly every Western Canadian Province will be working tirelessly to support every facet of the competition that celebrates academic excellence, professionalism, superior teamwork development, and goodwill. What differentiates the competition from others of its kind is its emphasis on school spirit and community involvement, with volunteer hours and dollars raised for charity as an integral component of the competition
The 40-person Organizing Committee, consisting of both current students and JDC West Alumni, has embraced the theme of this year to provide delegates with an innovative experience. From an all-new JDC West App and accompanying virtual experience on Attendify, to delivering presentations over Zoom and engaging with Corporate sponsors during virtual info sessions.
“We are honoured to host JDC West as this prestigious event provides us the opportunity to showcase our world-class business school to Western Canada’s top business school students and alumni,” said Dr. Gady Jacoby, Dean and CPA Manitoba Chair in Business Leadership at the Asper School of Business. “We look forward to cheering the teams on this week.”
