A few words from the Dean
As I approach my second year as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, I have reflected upon the past year and how much I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything that I have learnt about this trailblazing Faculty since my arrival last summer has reinforced the outstanding reputation that this Faculty enjoys – a reputation I was well aware of prior to my arrival as Dean. It is the exceptional, creative people and innovative programs of this Faculty that are the foundation of this reputation. To celebrate a few of the recent accomplishments of the people and programs associated with our Faculty, I encourage you to read the articles in this first issue of What’s News in Engineering. I am sure, like me, you will be impressed with the successes of our students, faculty and alumni.
The ongoing success of our Faculty is built around our first-class academic programs, visionary research and strong connection to the engineering community. Not prepared to accept the status quo, we are actively work to ‘raise-the-game’ of all aspects of our Faculty endeavours with the aim of ensuring that our Faculty maximizes its contribution to the well-being and development of our students, faculty and staff, as well as to society here in Manitoba and beyond.
As 2012 unfolds I expect it to be another banner year for this Faculty. Many exciting endeavours are about to come to fruition. Watch for future editions of What’s News in Engineering to learn more.
The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Manitoba is a trendsetting Canadian engineering program and I encourage you to join us and contribute to it. If you are in the Winnipeg area, please drop by for a visit or tour, and please do not hesitate to contact me or any of my Faculty colleagues if you have any questions about, or would like to get involved in, our ongoing success.
