Nominate a deserving Canadian

February 22, 2017 —

Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations are well underway and Her Honour the Honourable Janice C. Filmon, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, is inviting us all to participate in one of many great initiatives to celebrate deserving Canadians.

Throughout this sesquicentennial year, 150 individuals across the country will be recognized for their exceptional contributions to the advancement of Indigenous issues – and to the reconciliation process in particular. There will be a focus on recognizing both Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals within three national awards programs: The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers; The Meritorious Service Decorations; and The Order of Canada.

Each Lieutenant Governor has been invited by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, to reach out to community leaders and partners to identify a broad cross-sections of individuals within their community whose contributions large and small further the advancement of Indigenous issues.

Please consider nominating one or more worthy individuals for one of these prestigious awards. Manitobans are known and applauded for our commitment to the community, and it would be wonderful to recognize those who work so passionately for the greater good.

All submissions should be sent to the office of the Lieutenant Governor for forwarding to Ottawa and are due on or before Friday, February 24, 2017. If you are submitting a nomination, please advise by contacting:
