Esteemed philanthropists, alumni honoured on National Philanthropy Day

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Manitoba Chapter have recognized University of Manitoba Chancellor Harvey Secter [BComm/67, LLB/92] and Chancellor Emeritus Arthur Mauro  [BA/49, LLB/53, LLM/56, LLD/87] for their outstanding philanthropic leadership and contributions to the community.

At the annual Manitoba Philanthropy Awards Luncheon held in Winnipeg on November 18, Secter received the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award, and Mauro accepted on behalf of the Mauro Family the Outstanding Philanthropist Award.

Secter has served as Chancellor since 2010. He holds two degrees from the University of Manitoba, and is currently the Honourary Chair of the University’s Front and Centre campaign. Mauro served as Chancellor from 1991 through 2000, and holds four degrees from the University, including an honourary degree. He accepted the award on behalf of the Mauro Family, who have championed numerous causes throughout Winnipeg, including creating the Arthur V. Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice at the U of M.

U of M alumna Mary Beth Taylor Mary Beth Taylor [BA/95] was also recognized by AFP Manitoba with the Outstanding Professional Fundraiser Award. Taylor, who is president and senior fundraising strategist at the Creaddo Group, has been a passionate member of the charitable sector for over 20 years. In addition to her extensive local, national and international fundraising experience with organizations such as the University of Manitoba, McMaster University, University of Toronto, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Women’s College Hospital and World Wildlife Fund, she is also an energetic volunteer with numerous organizations.

TD Bank, a prominent supporter of the University of Manitoba, also received the Outstanding Large Philanthropic Organization Award.
