The Front and Centre philanthropic campaign will transform the University of Manitoba. Alumni, donors and the university community have shaped five campaign priorities that will ensure our province’s long-term economic, social and cultural vitality.
The days of a university’s home field advantage are long gone. Today’s students have a growing number of career opportunities and an equally expansive array of academic programming available to them.
To be a local, national and international destination for students, the U of M must offer a student experience that is among the best in Canada.
The Front and Centre campaign will inject $105 million into three areas of focus that will help provide students with an outstanding student experience. A full $75 million will be dedicated to enhancing the offering of scholarships and bursaries. Another $20 million will be used to create four new teaching chairs who will establish innovative approaches to teaching. The remaining $10 million will be invested in learning opportunities outside of the classroom, such as student exchanges, co-operative and work placement programs, and undergraduate research opportunities.
“Faculty members have a keen interest in learning about current best-teaching practices and assessment tools,” says Janice Ristock, vice-provost (academic affairs) at the University of Manitoba.
With additional funding, game-changers like David Mandzuk, dean of the Faculty of Education, and Pourang Irani, Canada Research Chair in Ubiquitous Analytics, will have the necessary support they need to advance learning experiences at the U of M. Dedicated students like Kevin Kowalyk will receive supports that will empower them to achieve incredible things—inside and outside of the classroom. And emerging leaders like Shawna McLeod, Kaitlin Downs and Caitlyn Arnould will have access to undergraduate research experiences that will shape their futures, and others.
