Movember wrap-up party

November 28, 2013 —

On Friday, November 29 at 9 p.m., UMFM, UMSU and Student Life are presenting the Movember Wrap-Up Party, a fundraiser for CancerCare Manitoba, at The Hub.

Men growing moustaches in support of Movember can end their campaigns with a quick shave, live on stage. Crave Designs hair studio will be on hand to trim upper lips and shave heads to raise funds for the cause.

Awards and prize packs donated by UMFM will be handed out to winners (determined by applause) of the following categories: “The Tom Selleck Award” for best moustache, “The Orlando Bloom Award” for most styled moustache, and “The Sydney Crosby Award” for best effort.

Women have a chance to win too by inventing creative and fun names for the moustaches.

The headline event of the night: Student Life Coordinator Dave Grad will get an embarrassing haircut as selected by public donations — you have four options to donate too, and Dave will wear the winning hairstyle for an entire week at work. To donate or see the options, check out: badhairforcancercare.com.

The party also features The Hub’s first-ever YouTube music video dance party, so guests will have the chance to request their favourite songs and music videos.

If you are looking to end your Movember campaign with a shave – contact david_grad@umanitoba.ca, or just show up!

The campaign hits home

This year the Movember campaign supported U of M researchers looking to prevent suicide among older men.

Corey Mackenzie, associate professor of psychology, and Kerstin Roger, assistant professor in the Faculty of Human Ecology, are part of a 15-member network team that received nearly $3 million in funding from the Movember Foundation to help men deal with mental health issues.
