Scholars come to Winnipeg to discuss rights of humans, and animals
Winnipeg is about to get more literary – and righteous.
Over 230 academics from around the world are expected to arrive in Winnipeg for a major conference in August: NASSR 2015: Romanticism & Rights.
This conference, organized by the University of Manitoba’s Michelle Faubert and the University of Winnipeg’s Peter Melville, will explore topics such as sexual rights, the right to religion, the right to die, animal rights, and human rights in literature from the Romantic period (1780-1830). The conference is the 23rd annual gathering of the largest association of scholars of the Romantic period in the world.
Amongst other special events, a special presentation on Indigenous rights has also been organized for August 14. Scholars will talk about the notion of Indigenous rights, spanning the late eighteenth century to the present day.
