WATCH: From test tubes to test lakes

Michael Paterson is an adjunct professor in the department of entomology and has been a research scientist at the Experimental Lakes Area (ELA) since 1992. (The department of environment and geography is running a field course at ELA this summer as part of the NSERC CREATE H2O program.)

This talk was given at a the TEDx event held at the University of Manitoba, produced independently of the TED Conferences.

Paterson’s research has focused on the ecosystem effects of human activities on freshwater lakes and his areas of expertise include aquatic food webs, plankton ecology, nutrients, and contaminants. While at ELA, he has been involved in whole-ecosystem studies on the effects of hydroelectric reservoir development, aquaculture, eutrophication, contaminants, acidification, and climate change.
