The Hub to host football fan experience
There has been a buzz around campus all season and the University of Manitoba Bison Football team has everything to do with it. The team has given its fans a thrilling ride in every regular and post-season match up with big-time plays and comeback wins.
With the team travelling to Calgary for their second playoff game of the 2013 season, fans and well-wishers can still rally together in true football fashion to cheer on the Bison team right here at home. The University of Manitoba Student’s Union (UMSU) is opening the doors of The HUB at University Centre for Saturday’s 3 p.m. kick-off against the Calgary Dinos in the 77th Hardy Cup (Canada West Final) for an exclusive screening and fan-filled experience.
UMSU President and Bison Football co-captain, Al Turnbull, hopes that students, staff and faculty will take advantage of the opportunity to come together and support the team.
“We really wanted to keep the momentum going with fan engagement here at home. This is a great opportunity to meet and greet with Bisons here at home, and of course a chance to cheer on the team in a collegial atmosphere.”
If the Bisons win on Saturday, they will earn the right to host the CIS Semi-Final, Mitchell Bowl on Saturday, November 16 at Investors Group Field, the final test before the desired Vanier Cup game. “We have an opportunity to win the Western Final for the first time since the 2007 Championship season,” says Turnbull. “Calgary has won five consecutive Hardy Cups, and has had a ton of success at home. We have surprised a lot of people this year, and we expect to do the same this week.”
Go Bisons!
