Britt Kural providing travel consultations at Steele's Apothecary
From campus to the world: Travel health made easy at Steele’s Apothecary
As summer travel surges, Steele’s Apothecary at the College of Pharmacy, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences is stepping up to ensure faculty, staff and students are prepared for safe journeys.
The travel health clinic now offers a full suite of travel health services, including personalized consultations, vaccinations and medications. Pharmacists at Steele’s are trained in travel medicine and can both recommend and administer vaccines, making it a convenient destination for travel health needs.
“Sometimes travelers have a false sense of security believing either through research, word of mouth or previous visits that there are little to no risks to worry about, when it could be the opposite,” says Britt Kural, experiential education facilitator in the college and the pharmacist currently providing travel consultations at Steele’s Apothecary.
“It’s about keeping potential health risks in mind and making sure travelers are able to mitigate them as best as possible.”
Steele’s Apothecary was created to make travel health services more accessible to the Rady community through specialized consultations. This campus facility eliminates the need to travel off-site and has short wait times.
Initial appointments are typically arranged within five business days, allowing travelers to receive guidance and begin any necessary vaccinations well ahead of their departure.
Travelers are encouraged to book their appointments at least six weeks in advance of departure to allow time for any required vaccine series. The clinic provides guidance on everything from malaria prevention and altitude sickness to traveler’s diarrhea and region-specific health risks.
In addition to confidential consultations and travel services, Steele’s Apothecary also runs flu clinics in the fall, to support campus health.
With expert advice, convenient access and a commitment to personalized care, Steele’s Apothecary is helping the university community travel smarter and safer, Kural said.
