Aggie students push a bed for the 2024 campaign

UM Aggies on the road for charity

September 24, 2024 —

The annual Aggie Bedpush, a long-standing fundraising tradition for students in the UM’s Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, will be hitting the road once again this fall.

Students will be pushing the iconic burgandy-coloured bed down the main streets of Manitoba communities September 27-29 to raise funds, this year in support of two charities, STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service) Foundation and the Manitoba Farmers Wellness Program.

Bedpush organizers Maggie Wytinck and Zoe Murray-Mulvey say both of the chosen charities hit close to home for students in the Faculty.

“Many of us live in rural communities and having a foundation such as STARS is often more times than not, the difference between life and death. STARS can provide you the help you or a loved one may need,” said Wytinck. “They are there for you on what could be the worst day of your life.”

Murray-Mulvey noted that the mental health is often a silent struggle for many people, especially farmers, who may find it hard to ask for help.

“The Manitoba Farmers Wellness Program offers many different types of counseling that is farm specific. They understand that it is hard to talk to someone who doesn’t understand your struggles. That’s why they focus on “farmers helping farmers”.

During the Bedpush event, sponsors help out by holding BBQ’s along the way, and communities also have coffee and snacks waiting for the hard-working students. Donations will be accepted at each of the communities listed below or by visiting the Bedpush GoFundMe page.  If you donate by cash or cheque (made out to Faculty of Agriculture Students Organization or FASO) over $20, you can request a tax receipt via this form.
