Faculty of Law welcomes new Assistant Professor, Kenneth Grad
The Office of the Dean of Law welcomes new Assistant Professor Kenneth Grad, who formally commences his position at the Faculty of Law on July 1, 2024.
Kenneth Grad has a BA from the University of Toronto, an MA in History from Queen’s University, and received the Gold Medal for Law upon graduating with a JD from Osgoode Hall. He obtained an LLM from Harvard Law School, and is ABD at Osgoode for his PhD in Law.
With a strong academic background and practical experience in leading law firms, Grad brings a wealth of knowledge to both teaching and research. His doctoral research focuses on the criminalization of hate speech, a topic of contemporary legal debate, and he has published extensively in reputable journals. Grad’s commitment to student engagement, diversity, and inclusion aligns with Manitoba’s values, and he looks forward to contributing to the faculty’s mission of teaching and research excellence.
Immediately prior to commencing his doctorate, Grad practiced criminal law with Henein Hutchison Robitaille LLP in Toronto. Prior to that, he practiced civil litigation with leading law firms in New York City. In addition, he served his articling year as a judicial law clerk to Justice Morris Fish of the Supreme Court of Canada. Grad has appeared and argued before all levels of court in Ontario, including several appearances in the Court of Appeal for Ontario. He is called to the bar in Ontario and New York.
“We look forward to welcoming Mr. Grad to the Faculty this summer and the knowledge and skill he will be sharing with the next generation of lawyers in Manitoba,” said Dr. Richard Jochelson, Dean of Law.

Grad will be teaching criminal law and procedure commencing in the fall term and evidence in the winter term.
