Five reasons to try dance and martial arts programs for free, Sep. 11-17

Five reasons you should try dance and martial arts

UM Recreation Services is opening the dance and martial arts programs to UM students and members for free, September 11-17. But why should you take time out of your busy schedule to give them a try? There are many reasons, so we narrowed the list down to the best ones!

  1. Improved physical fitness: Dance and martial arts can help to improve cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and tone, and flexibility and coordination. These activities can also be effective for weight management and help increase metabolism and burn calories.
  2. Stress relief: Physical activity can be a great way to relieve stress and tension, and dance and martial arts can be especially beneficial in this regard. The endorphins released during these activities can help to improve mood and reduce anxiety and depression.
  3. Improved mental health: Dance and martial arts can also have a positive impact on mental health by increasing self-esteem, confidence, focus and concentration. These activities can also provide an opportunity for social interaction and be a fun and enjoyable way to spend time with others.
  4. Cultural appreciation: Many dance and martial arts styles have deep cultural roots, and participating in these activities can be a way to learn about and appreciate different cultures.
  5. Personal growth: Dance and martial arts can be challenging, but overcoming these challenges can lead to personal growth and a sense of accomplishment.

Overall, dance and martial arts programs can offer a wide range of physical and mental health benefits and cultural and personal growth opportunities. It is important to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new physical activity program, especially if you have any underlying health conditions.

  • It’s a chance to see what the classes are like: The free trial event gives you a taste of what our dance and martial arts classes are like, including the format, the instructor, and the participants.
  • It’s an opportunity to meet new people: Dance and martial arts classes can be a great way to meet new people and make new friends, especially if you’re new to an area or looking to expand your social circle.
  • It’s a chance to learn something new: Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced dancer or martial artist, attending the free trial event can be a chance to learn something new and to challenge yourself.
