Do you know your Canada’s Food Guide?
If you are remembering a rainbow-colored quartet of food groups or the need to eat 8-10 servings of fruit and vegetables each day, you may be out of date.
In early 2019, Health Canada launched the new Canada’s Food Guide. This new guide moves away from food groups and recommended servings, and instead advises on healthy eating habits, including more whole grains and plant-based foods.
Chelsey Walchuk, Ph.D. candidate and registered dietitian in the Department of Food and Human Nutrition Sciences, is working with dietetics students in HNSC4600 Practice-based Research in Human Nutritional Sciences on a study regarding Canada’s Food Guide.
The study consists of a short (about 10 minute) online questionnaire to examine the general awareness, perception and use of the 2019 Canada’s Food Guide among adults living in Canada, and how this relates to demographics and self-perceived health status.
Your participation would be most appreciated, and you are encouraged to share the survey link with your networks. The results of this study will provide information to benefit Health Canada and health care practitioners such as registered dietitians in promoting the use of the 2019 Canada’s Food Guide to improve the dietary habits of Canadians.
