Time is running out – Apply now for 3MT
Grad Students: Do you want to give people an insightful look at your groundbreaking research, and have a chance to win cash prizes? If yes, you do not want to miss this opportunity!
“The 3MT competition provides graduate students a unique opportunity to condense their research passion into three minutes. It is a chance to hone communication skills and share your research journey with a broad audience,” says Kelley Main, Acting Dean of Graduate Studies.
The skills you will develop while competing in 3MT will come in handy when sharing your work with fellow researchers, or applying for grants. The better you are at simply, concisely and persuasively sharing your research, the better.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the presentations are anticipated to be virtual, with judges and the audience watching the heats and final event online. Audience members will be able to vote for the People’s Choice award in the final event.
You can apply online on the 3MT® website. You will need to fill out an application, as well as upload a 30-second video.
Once selected, challengers are assigned to one of the heats on March 2, 4 or 5. The top 3 challengers from each heat chosen by the judging panel will receive $200 prize/gift card. Finalists from the heats along with wildcard selections from the heats, will compete on April 21. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges, and the audience will vote for the People’s Choice winner. Prizes for the final competition can be found here.
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is open to all University of Manitoba graduate students in thesis-based programs. Each challenger has three minutes―using only a single static slide as an illustration―to clearly explain the nature, goals and significance of their research.
The deadline to apply for the 2020 3MT Thesis Competition is January 21. Rules and eligibility can be found here.
