Recognized for cutting-edge knowledge to the field of international education
Assistant Prof. Merli Tamtik has been presented with a Catalyst Award for individuals bringing cutting-edge knowledge to the field of international education.
That award was presented to Tamtik as lead editor for the book, “International Education as Public Policy in Canada.”
Presented by the Canadian Bureau for International Education at its annual conference Nov. 18, Tamtik shares the award with co-editors, Dr. Roopa Desai Trilokekar, associate professor at York University Faculty of Education, and Prof. Glen Jones, dean at OISE/UT.
In presenting the award, CBIE president Larissa Bezo described the book as “a comprehensive and critical analysis of Canada’s international education policy approaches.
Distinct approach
“And it is a book that I can share my team is currently reading,” Bezo said. “I’m finding it to be very informative, so well done!”
In accepting the award, Tamtik acknowledged the work of her co-editors and the book’s 19 contributing writers, adding “Canada has had a very distinct policy approach when it comes to international education. Increasing mobility numbers and pro-immigration policies have attracted attention from other countries toward Canada, across the globe.”
The book explores the federal and provincial governments approaches to various policies such as global affairs, immigration policy as well as research and innovation policy, as it relates to international education. The book also examines topics such as ethical practices in internationalization, how Indigenization plays a role in international education, among others.
Digvir S. Jayas, University of Manitoba’s vice-president Research and International, also attended the award ceremony and extended his regards.
